New fire safety recommendations for ferry and port operators and emergency services have followed an investigation by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch into a fire in 2010 on the Commodore Clipper Jersey-to-Portsmouth ferry that left passengers trapped for more than 20 hours.

Malfunctions Blamed for Bulgarian Bus Fires.

Technical malfunctions have been blamed for two recent bus fires in Bulgaria. The first fire was on a bus traveling between the Rhodoppe city of Smolyan and the nearby village of Smilyan. The bus was in motion when its engine burst in flames. All of the passengers were evacuated swiftly, and there were no reported injuries. According to the head of the Regional Fire Rescue services, the fire was triggered by a malfunction in the vehicle's electric circuit.
