Combustible Metal Fires

20 May 2011
The U.S. Chemical Safety Board has confirmed that two flash fires that occurred in Gallatin, Tennessee

involved the combustion of iron powder that had accumulated throughout the facility and became airborne in combustible concentrations. A flash fire on January killed one worker and seriously burned another. A similar fire occurred on March, causing one injury. The plant where the fires occurred manufactures “atomised” iron powder.
